Hi, I’m Karen G. Adams, founder of Financial Management 101.

I work with established small business owners who’ve moved well beyond startup. They’re busy, the revenue is coming in, and they have an accountant and a bookkeeper. Even so, many of them have a quiet feeling that “we should be getting more out of this business than we are.”

If that’s you, you’re not alone. You haven’t done anything wrong. Most likely, nobody has shown you how to use your numbers to run the business.

Where I come from

I’ve spent nearly four decades in financial services, business finance, financial planning, leadership and strategy. Over that time I’ve worked through booms, busts and everything in between, with corporates, family businesses and solo operators.

What I’ve seen work, time and again is this. Owners don’t need more reports. They need to know what their numbers are telling them, and what to do next.

Where I fit

Your accountant makes sure the numbers are right. Your bookkeeper makes sure the records are right. My job is to make sure you know what to do with them.

I don’t replace your accountant. I help you run the business with the numbers you already have.

It isn’t a giant transformation project. It’s the right discipline, in the right order.

The decisions we work through are the real ones. Can we afford another employee? Should we put our prices up? How much can I safely pay myself? What happens if revenue drops?
